Checking Accounts
- Check numbers are random and not in sequential order.
- An increase of bounced checks and overdraft fees.
- Multiple small dollar checks may indicate telemarketing or charity scams.
- Withdrawals from an inactive checking, credit account or a new joint account.
- Change or addition of authorized signers on a signature card.
ATM Debit Cards
- Increased credit or debit card activity.
- Newly issued ATM, debit or credit card.
- Abrupt change in credit card balances or ATM/debit card purchases.
- Repetitive ATM/debit card withdrawals or purchases over a short period of time.
- Usage inconsistent with prior patterns such as late night or early morning withdrawals in distant parts of town.
Account Behavior
- Increased and inconsistent usage after the addition of a new authorized signer.
- Disappearance of funds or valuable possessions from a safety deposit box.
- Confusion about the account balance or transactions on account.
- Family members or caregiver being paid too much or too often.
- Increase in monthly expenses may indicate another person’s expenses are being paid.
- Caregivers, family members, or friends directing financial decisions.
- Change of mailing address or statement forwarding.
- Previously uninvolved relatives claiming rights to finances and
- Refinanced property with cash-out and new owners listed on deed but not as co-borrowers on the loan.
